Self-portraits July 16 - July 18

Counting down the days ... I'm on 'F1 student visa' on OPT.
I just want to stay in the States, International students will understand!
These portraits are being affected by what I am going through daily. I wrote each caption after I finished drawing every portrait.

Self-portraits July 12 - July 15

More self-portraits! I will try to keep a consistent timing for posting these.
My struggle is evident I think, but I am trying to learn every day from each portrait.
Today I decided to take a break from gouache, so I did a drawing.
I think the only rule I have for this project is: Square format.
Medium-wise I will try to do a bit of everything.
Advice & guidance will be helpful :) also suggestions for mediums or any new rules are welcome!

Self-portrait a day for a year!

What? I have started on a new project on July 10th. I will be painting a self-portrait everyday for a year.
How did this happen? On July the 10th I was painting a self-portrait because I had fun painting one on July 4th. I was telling my friend Charles about it, then he suggested following the footsteps of Andrew Jones & do a self-portrait everyday for a year. I decided to go ahead & do it.
So here are the portraits I have scanned so far, more to come soon!
All portraits are painted with gouache on 6"x6" ampersand gessobord.

Illustration Academy, Richmond VA

This summer I decided to get a second dose of the Illustration Academy. This year it was held in two locations Richmond, VA + Kansas City, MO. I went for the one in Richmond, it was a month long and it was simply gratifying being around artists I admire so much & students who are dedicated. Here are two assignments I've done during the program.

Portrait assignment for Anita Kunz. I chose my favorite author Lemony Snicket.
His portrait is the postal stamp.

Young-adult book cover assignment for Jon Foster. This is a cover for 'Will Grayson, Will Grayson' by Nerdfighter/author John Green & author David Levithan. I highly recommend reading this book!

Here's the original book cover

On the links tab on the left I have added 'Illustration Academy 2010' take the time to look at the instructors & students websites !
